Buttermilk, with its fatty and acidic nature, works as a moisturiser and as an exfoliant. 

You can use it with some clays or charcoal to make a mask, it is said to brighten skin, fade brown spots, and even out tone.

The oatmeal performs mini-miracles when it is applied to the skin. It whisks away dead cells and gently cleans pores. Polysaccharides in oats, leaves a fine protective film on the skin to prevent dullness and dryness, irritation and redness. The end result is a soft, moist glow.
